Jesse Dirkhising

A couple of interesting things to think about in relation to the subject of the death of Jesse Dirkhising;

1) Rape/murders like this happen to young women, perpetrated by men, EVERY DAY. No one seems to be freaking out that it happens to young women, only to young men. Apparently young women are not as important as young men.

2) Why is Matthew Shepard different than Jesse Dirkhising? Shepard was not just brutally murdered-- he also represented many of us, me included, that have been the direct targets of anti-gay violence. For every one Matthew Shepard, there are dozens of gay people that have also been brutalized. We responded to him because we recognized ourselves and how close many of us have come to death at the hands of a hate monger. As bad as I feel about Jesse Dirkhising, he isn't representative of anything except a single brutal murder.

3) The death of Jesse Dirkhising is not "becoming too frequent" or something that is a "typical GAY kick." Rape and pedophilia are not something common in the gay community, or something that we endorse or advocate. Speaking as a gay person, what these men did was sick, disgusting, and should get them BOTH the death penalty. Hell, I'll throw the frigging switch!

hello i was just wanting to say that there was only one difference between matthew and jesse and that was that matthew was gay and jesse wasnt. jesse like matthew was murdered and it was brutal just like matthew shepard. jesse was raped for hours and killed matthew was beaten for hours and left to die. neither of these two young men deserved to die. I think people who hate gay are just stupid because they are just like you and me they just like the same sex it is no big thing. people who target gays or anyother's who are not straight sould have to see what they feel like when people talk bad about them and treaten to be kill because they are gay. come on people No one deserves to die they way these to young men had to weather they were both gay or not. If you have anything to say to me feel free to email at the email address above thanks

There's no way to justify either of these deaths. Shepard's death had one additional characteristic, though, that you didn't note - it was directed not only at Matthew Shepard, but at all gay people - designed to terrorize an entire community, not just an individual.

That makes his death a hate crime, where Jesse's wasn't.
