What do you want to be when you grow up?

Filed in: ,

I remember when I was a little kid, I read a book about Camelot and King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table--and because I was reading pretty far above my age level, I understood what I read, but I didn't understand the context of it... meaning I didn't really have a concept of history and timelines and things that happened in the past versus things that were happening presently.

So I thought that being a Knight in Shining Armor was something you could grow up to do, like an occupation. And I REALLY didn't have any concept of gender roles, so I thought; I could be a Knight in Shining Armor.

So I had these huge elaborate fantasies about riding around killing dragons and rescuing fair maidens.

I was very disappointed when I found out that all of this happened hundreds of years ago and that I couldn't be a Knight.
