Monkey Bread

From the kitchen of: Mrs. Young.

This is the original and best Monkey Bread recipe; all imitators pale in comparison. This breakfast dish will cause my family to riot when it's served, and I've made it for parties and had people practically swallow it whole. Mom got the recipe from our neighbor, Mrs. Young, on South East 4th Street in Ankeny, Iowa in the 1970's and has been serving it ever since. Recently it's become a popular "new" dish with some significant and low-quality differences. Chuck the others, this is the one you want.

  • 3 packages refrigerator biscuits
  • 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Grease bundt pan. Cut biscuits in 1/2, drop in cinnamon and sugar mix. Drop in pan.

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 stick margarine

Boil 1 minute, pour over biscuits. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.

which size refrigerator biscuits? I bought the Grands and now I'm not sure if I should use 2 or 3 cans.

Thanks for the recipe!
I added chopped walnuts to mine and it was wonderful. I also use this same recipe outline for parmesan garlic bread! Try making a MINI version using your muffin pan!!

Hi, I'm making monkey bread for the first time - and I boiled it a bit long I think, it looks carmely and didn't quite ooze into the dough -I'm thinking I should have stopped when it was basically mixed well with the butter but not really boiling. This will teach my friend not to be FIRST when I try a new recipe. But it's fun enough to make to try it again and get it right.

This recipe is great with chopped red and green cherries layered between the biscuits (for the holidays) AND adding a half teaspoon of almond extract to the butter/sugar mixture makes a flavor the kids really go for.
